ECHO 2 workshop shares progress on HAO and STO

The 2nd Dissemination Workshop of the SESAR Joint Undertaking ECHO 2 project was held by EUROCONTROL at the Visualiseringscenter C in Norrköping on 20-21 January 2026.

The event brought together a wide range of European stakeholders to share progress on higher altitude (HAO) and space transport (STO) operations.
The ECHO2 project, led by EUROCONTROL, aims at enabling safe, seamless and efficient HAO through a combination of live flight trials, operational procedures and simulation-based research.

Key highlights included presentations from the EUROCONTROL Network Manager Operations Centre Space Desk on real-time space launch monitoring and tools to integrate space transport operations into the European ATM network with minimal impact.
Results from extensive real-time validation exercises led by EUROCONTROL at the EIH and Leonardo demonstrated the viability of the innovative 4D operating zones concept.

The workshop also featured panel discussions with regulators and industry representatives, research updates from Linköping University, and an immersive Wisdome 3D visualisation experience.
