Higher airspace is the next aviation frontier, where slow-moving high-altitude platforms will be operating alongside extremely fast hypersonic aircraft and space launches. Find out how the ECHO project is looking to tackle these huge challenges.

ECHO, the European Concept for Higher Airspace Operations, brings together the regulator, the industry, research institutes, service providers and the body that manages Europe’s airspace equitably for all types of user, the EUROCONTROL Network Manager.

A SESAR2020 project, ECHO aims to enable safe, efficient and scalable operations above the flight levels where conventional air traffic operates – with its key deliverable a European Concept of Operations (ConOps) for higher airspace that will in turn feed into the ICAO global framework, ensuring a global harmonised approach for higher airspace operations.

In this video EUROCONTROL’s Henk Hof, ECHO Project Leader, explains where the project has reached following the second ECHO workshop designed to initially validate the ECHO ConOps, and what lies ahead for this exciting new frontier.
